Publishing platforms no longer picked as competitors

Platforms like dev.to, Medium and Substack are no longer suggested as competitors, so their broad searches stop turning into topics you never chose. Onboarding also shows what is still to set up and describes changes as up to one a day.

New

  • Onboarding's Is this you? step now shows Your angle and Also reaches, prefilled from what we read on your site and saved when you press Looks right.
  • Onboarding's Where should articles go? step now offers only what we can publish to, WordPress and Your own code, each named.

Improved

  • If you keep a publishing platform such as dev.to or Medium on your competitor list, it stays there for AI checks and reports, but weekly research no longer looks for gaps with it.
  • On the Keywords screen, the Competitor choice no longer offers a button for a publishing platform and explains that its searches cover every subject.
  • Onboarding's plan step now names what is still to set up, Search Console, publishing or both, and points you to Finish setup in the sidebar instead of saying there is nothing else to do.
  • The plan step now describes changes as up to one a day, each waiting for your OK, shipping on its own or ready for you to copy over, depending on your autopilot choice and whether publishing is set up, instead of promising about 30 a month.
  • The plan step now ticks the Search Console line only once Search Console is connected, and until then it asks you to connect it.
  • Onboarding's brand step now says when your colours, tone and image style were read from your site, and its subtitle asks you to check the colours and pick a style for your images.
  • Colour swatches now have a faint edge in onboarding and in Settings › Brand, so a dark colour no longer disappears in dark mode.

Fixed

  • dev.to, Hashnode, Substack, Blogger, WordPress.com, Tumblr and Medium, including sites on their subdomains, are no longer picked as your competitors, so their broad developer searches stop creating topics you never chose.
  • The plan step no longer says there is nothing else to set up when you skipped Search Console or publishing, including when you add another site to your plan.
  • Onboarding's brand step no longer says “Pick an image style and you’re done” when four steps are still to go.
  • A later re-read of your site no longer overwrites your angle or who else you reach once you have edited them in onboarding.
